in the mood of watching all the new movies in which ryan gosling takes part you cannot avoid to watch "blue valentine" with him and michelle williams.
it's a story about two young people falling in love, having an early happy end by getting married when for a short period the relationship is at stake because of an early pregnancy, and leading a married life avoiding the confrontation of changes in their emotional and personal evolution.
there's no happy end to be expected in this movie. apart from the actors' brilliance, in fact, "blue valentine" is realistically heavy and actually turns you into a love-nihilist.
watching "drive" after that, another gosling-movie, doesn't make it any better in matters of love, but it doesn't have to. it's a crime thriller about a hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver.
adapted from the novel of the same name by james sallis, in the film ryan’s character is on the run after a bank heist he’s involved in goes badly, with an ex-con’s girlfriend, played by carey mulligan.
i do really love this movie! it's well directed, contains intelligent action and deep characters. even more, director nicolas winding refn uses a type of color symbolism that kind of reminds me of coppola's style in the godfather. the dramaturgy is brilliant, implying also some unpredictable turns, and speaking of unpredictable, be warned of the brutality in some rare moments.
last but not least, the soundtrack shapes the movie's character in a very pleasant 80s mood. cineasts believe me, it's very worth watching!
a very cheer-up-movie is "crazy, stupid, love", a comedy about long marriages, soulmates, fights for love, life-changing sex, getting out of the routine, and so on. very stylish casanova ryan gosling helps steve carell getting in shape for girls after his wife cheated on him and wants the divorce. but this is a comedy and therefore there is a happy end - even this casanova finds true love in the end.
i enjoyed the funniest lines and the remarkable cast - marisa tomei, julianne moore, emma stone, and kevin bacon. watch and enjoy this trailer, this crazy and charmingly stupid narrative of love :-)
you can find a more political ryan gosling next to george clooney in "the ides of march". to be loyal or not to be loyal, that is the question here. i haven't watched it yet but the cast - paul giamatti, marisa tomei, philip seymor hoffman, evan rachel wood, jeffrey wright - and the trailer seems promising:
4 movies, 1 brilliant actor. and it's just the right season for watching one movie after another. enjoy!
