Easy vs. Difficult

Watching Madonna’s „I’m going to tell you a secret“-Tour-diary on DVD I caught myself with wet eyes a few times. Believe me, it surprised me, too! Not always liking her work I nevertheless acknowledged her creativity, professionalism, artistic intuition and talent in reinventing herself again and again. This time I have been struck by her deep thoughts she communicated in her tour-diary. The tour must have been taken place during the election-period in the USA with Kerry as the candidate for the democratic party and the – forgive me this adjective – occasional up flaming conflict in Israel, because on the DVD her visit there for trying to make a difference is also shown.
Of course, the viewer also gets a short introduction in kabala by her occasionally and her teacher.
Well, me, being open for liberal and spiritual thoughts, I got touched by her views and the way she expressed them. She didn’t only refer to politics but also to humanity. Key words were “compassion”, “change”, “forgiveness”, …
As we all know it’s not easy to get along well with everybody and everything. She says she doesn’t want “easy”. ““Easy” doesn’t make you grow. “Easy” doesn’t make you think.” Probably she means, that it doesn’t make one change. Without being compassionate and responsible, one's gifts and talents don't mean anything. Forgiving people who hurt you gives you more serenity and balance, avoids to harbour hatred. All these key-words have the same goal: They are necessary to become a better person and to move on in life, implying that it is necessary to move on instead of giving up in favour of stagnation.
It kind of corresponds with my views.
We need change. And sometimes change doesn’t come without struggle. We need to suffer. Without suffering we are not able to feel compassion with others. Without the others we cannot improve life. We need to show them all these things to make the world a better place. Politics doesn’t necessarily help much. If we, ourselves, do improve, then our surroundings can improve, too.

Thinking of the current cruel situation in Israel peace is a very desirable goal.
“Peace is much deeper than the absence of war” says Madonna.
She doesn’t know if she can make a difference, but at least she tries. In her position, being popular in the whole world, she can make people conscious, she possibly wakes them up. Because as long as you’re not conscious of something being wrong you cannot make a change. “Knowing is the beginning.”

But wait - there’s one thought in my head: Just don’t think about war right now but about other hardships we face in life such as diseases, problems at work, pressure, malignance etc. Imagine we would actually live in a better world, without sorrow. I cannot help but wonder: What happens then? Are we able to be constantly happy and still have values? Or do we become dull again when everything’s perfect? To be good humans, don’t we actually need hard times?
