Kino 2008

It seems to me that the year 2008 has been a pretty good year for flicks. The Golden Globes have just shown that by honoring the best films, actors and actresses I was cheering for. For example talented Kate Winslet and Heath Ledger (cineasts painfully miss).

Dear reader, which movie did touch you the most last year?
My personal last years' favorites in fiction are "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" by Woody Allen, whom protagonists prove themselves that only unfulfilled love is romantic, "Im Winter ein Jahr" by german director Caroline Link who again succesfully created a deep story about emotions that cannot be ignored, "The Dark Knight" as the best interpretation of Batman affected also by Heath Ledger's great perfomance as the Joker, and finally "Revolutionary Road" by realist Sam Mendes about a couple who wants to escape conformity and violently tries to return to what they forgot but always wanted: to be different from the adapted people and pursuing their dreams no matter what.
What I missed but have been told to see because apparently I would like it, is the Coen Brothers' movie "Burn After Reading". I definitely have to get it on DVD as critics and friends assure that it's a funny intelligently realised story - after all the Coen Brothers are a promising creative team.

A must see this year is the curious-making, fascinating movie "The curious case of Benjamin Button" with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett meeting their love under unbelievable circumstances at half way of their lives.

I can't wait to see how much more good fiction 2009 is going to bring us. The previews promise exciting new films to successfully escape real life for at least 2 hours now and then. Because:
"What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out” (Alfred Hitchcock).
