choice between death and glory

when pete doherty surpsingly performed on saturday night's on3 radio festival, known for inviting non-commercial indie-bands, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, he probably wasn't aware that he had made the choice for "death". the audience was impatiently waiting for german band "Kettcar" and wasn't therefore very happy about Pete Doherty delaying it even more.
by singing the first verse of germany's national hymn "deutschland deutschland über alles" which is considered a right-wing attitude and therefore is a delicate subject for germans, he certainly couldn't expect "glory".
inspite of the critique expressed from the audience by giving him the finger and shouting for him to piss off, personally it was a special highlight for me.
the audience was not amused during the 4 songs he played. but - the fifth song, "f*** forever", an expressed wish by my friend chris, is the greatest song of his and made peace come back into the hall of shame. even though then finally the audience clapped with satisfaction he was forced to leave the stage. "to not upset the audience anymore", we were told.

after that I didn't want to see kettcar anymore. kettcar? those nice guys from hamburg? how boring now.

this monday morning I bought the newspaper as always. on all the newspapers pete doherty was demonstrated as THE bad guy of this weekend in munich on the front page! (just) because he sang the right-wing minded verse of the german hymn. ok.
but all the criticism was too exagerated only because in munich finally something happened and could be finally used as a good story for the journalists. ha!

instead it was the audience that was embarassing by being that intolerant! maybe they didn't even know who he was?!

here you can find the only positive review of his performance:

"How d'you choose between death and glory?
But I musta choose between death and glory?
Between Labour and Tory
Pergatory and happy families"
(...)
"Oh, you're so clever
But you're not very nice
So fuck forever
If you don't mind"

P.S.: Tuesday Dec 1st, the radio's press speaker said something like "shit happens all the time when you have to deal with the music business. that's nothing abnormal." thanks!
